On August 10, U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell (D-MI-06) and U.S. Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) introduced expanding coverage of home-based long-term personal care services under Medicare Part B. This affects Medicare, which provides healthcare for adults over 65 and qualified young people with disabilities. The Medicare at Home Act legislation is pending.

This affects home-based caregivers and their care recipients in all states. Administration may differ across states.
For families, this means Medicare Part B will pay for home-based personal care and caregiving. Currently in Medicare any home care is dependent on the patient requiring skilled care. When skilled care ends, home-based care also ends. The Medicare at Home Act will cover home-based caregivers even when PT, OT or other skilled care ends.
